It’s a basic human instinct to want to communicate with individuals whose passions are similar to your own. As a teacher, you all have the common goal of educating your students, and working together it can be achieved. This can only be accomplished through communication. I stated this in my response to discussion one, and I feel in this program at Phoenix, I can elaborate and be trained further in this tactic, to become a better communicator not only for myself, but more important for my students, their parents, and other faculty.
Another important decision for me that was important in my career change is the ability to be a role model for my future students. I’m beginning to achieve that by starting to volunteer with the NY Cares Organization. Through this organization, I can donate my time to volunteer by educating individuals who are less fortunate. I can provide young children with a positive role model to look up to. Through Phoenix, I can become a role model through my student teaching and development experience. I am hoping to gain even further enlightenment into Elementary Education during that period in this program.
Finally, I have always had a passion for teaching individuals, and the rewarding feeling I get after seeing someone learn something from me is a truly unique experience. I decided that now was the perfect time to start pursuing my passion. After making my decision to switch careers, I wanted to gain a bit of experience in this field, so I enrolled in a statewide Pre-Service course for alternate route teachers. I truly enjoyed this experience, and proceeding that I took some non-credit graduate developmental courses through my Alma Mater, Kean University, to learn further techniques in education. I found myself enjoying every minute of this experience and realized that I have found my nitch. With this program, I will gain my certification in Elementary Education; however I don’t plan on stopping there. I’m also working towards additional subject certifications in Music K-12 and Speech and Dramatic Arts K-12.
I have chosen the degree in my field because it successfully combines all the components I was looking for. I can gain standard certification through the State of New Jersey, and the teaching background and experience I need in the field while earning my Master's degree in Education. This program has neatly bundled everything I need to get the ultimate result: A career in Education. What this field has to offer makes me realize, even with my prior experience in other fields, is that nothing can be more satisfying than a career as a teacher. I am looking forward to stepping into a classroom, and providing my future students with as much knowledge and as many resources within my means, helping them to become well-rounded, enriched individuals.
In conclusion, my pursuit into the Education field through the University of Phoenix will provide me with the education I need for development in my field through their initial teacher preparation program, and assist me in developing my Portfolio and experience so I may become an individual who inspires others.
